Danish handball great Mikkel Hansen and his wife Stephanie Gundelach have separated, Gundelach announced on Instagram on Sunday evening, saying the couple went their separate ways last autumn.

The pair, who confirmed their relationship in 2017 and married in 2020, share two sons, Eddie Max and Vince. The family had returned to Denmark in 2022 when Hansen signed with Aalborg Handball, and earlier this year the couple put their shared summer house up for sale.

Hansen, a three-time world player of the year who won two Olympic golds and three world championships with Denmark, retired from professional play in 2024 after the Paris Olympics. He scored 1,387 goals in 276 appearances for the national team and currently serves as an ambassador for Pro Handball USA.
