The Czech Republic faces a renewed bout of extreme heat from Thursday, with the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute warning that temperatures could approach 40 degrees Celsius on Friday across parts of the country, following earlier forecasts of a broader Central European heatwave.
The agency issued a high-temperature alert covering most of the country for readings between 35 and 39 degrees, with tropical nights expected to keep thermometers above 20 degrees. A brief cooling is forecast over the August 1–2 weekend, mainly in Bohemia, before heat returns above 35 degrees early next week.
Czech Railways warned that extreme heat could disrupt train operations and cause air-conditioning failures on board, though no significant rail damage was reported during the record-breaking June spell that saw 41.9 degrees logged at Doksany, an all-time national high. Meteorologists have said 40-degree readings could occur twice this summer.
