Brent crude has surpassed $100 a barrel for the first time since late May, driving fuel prices to their highest levels in months across major European markets after weeks of escalating US-Iran hostilities.
In Italy, self-service diesel reached 2.161 euros per litre on Thursday, its highest since mid-April, while petrol held at 1.968 euros. Consumer group Codacons estimates a full diesel tank now costs 14 euros more than at the start of July.
German motorists face similar pressure, with E10 petrol averaging 2.168 euros per litre and diesel at 2.199 euros. E10 is now just 3.5 cents shy of its all-time high set in March 2022.
