A 13-year-old boy has died and another person was injured when part of a fountain collapsed onto a group of young people in the Spanish town of Ciudad Rodrigo. The incident occurred at 00:33 on Monday, 20 July 2026, during celebrations marking the Spanish national football team's World Cup victory.
The structure at the Glorieta del Árbol Gordo fell shortly after midnight, trapping revellers beneath it. The boy later died at the Ciudad Rodrigo health centre, where emergency services had rushed casualties from the scene.
Authorities activated the Disaster and Emergency Psychological Intervention Group to provide support to the families of the victims.
