Lauren Laverne, the BBC Radio 6 Music presenter and Desert Island Discs host, announced on Thursday that she has been diagnosed with smouldering myeloma, a rare blood and bone marrow disorder.
The 48-year-old shared the diagnosis on Instagram, noting the condition is asymptomatic and currently requires no treatment. She will take a two-week break before returning to work.
The announcement comes less than two years after Laverne was diagnosed with cancer in August 2024. She received the all-clear three months later, in November 2024. Smouldering myeloma is typically monitored rather than treated, as it may remain stable without progressing to active disease.
