Dermot Murnaghan, a prominent British television presenter best known for hosting the quiz show Eggheads, has died at the age of 68.
Murnaghan passed away at his home in North London on 11 July 2026, capping a career that made him one of the UK's most recognisable broadcast journalists. He had been diagnosed with stage four prostate cancer in June 2025, roughly a year before his death, according to reports confirming his passing.
Murnaghan spent decades fronting news bulletins and current-affairs programming before becoming widely associated with Eggheads, the popular television quiz that pitted challengers against a panel of seasoned quizzers. His death was announced on Friday.
