Bayern Munich opened their Frauen-Bundesliga title defence with a 4-1 victory over Union Berlin at the Stadion an der Alten Försterei on Thursday, extending their dominance of German women's football.
Klara Bühl broke the deadlock with a direct free-kick goal in the 26th minute, before Pernille Harder doubled the lead early in the second half. Glodis Viggosdottir made it 3-0 in the 60th minute. Nele Bauereisen pulled one back for Union in the 79th minute, but Sophie Proost sealed the result with a 90th-minute strike assisted by Harder.
The match drew 17,083 spectators for Marie-Louis Eta's debut as Union Berlin head coach. Bayern, who claimed the championship in each of the past four seasons, also won the Supercup against Wolfsburg a week earlier. Defender Stine Ballisager started for Bayern before being substituted after just over an hour.
