Northern Territory police have released previously unseen photographs from the investigation into the 2001 murder of British backpacker Peter Falconio, marking 25 years since his disappearance on a remote stretch of highway near Barrow Creek.
The images, published Tuesday, include a photograph of Falconio's girlfriend Joanne Lees taken after her encounter with the killer on the Stuart Highway. Bradley John Murdoch was convicted in December 2005 of murdering the 28-year-old and assaulting Lees at gunpoint. He was sentenced to life imprisonment without parole for at least 28 years but died in prison in 2025 from throat cancer, never revealing the location of Falconio's remains.
Authorities believe Murdoch may have confided in a family member or friend. A reward of up to A$500,000 remains available for information leading directly to the discovery of Falconio's body.
