Algerian man reported in Rome after Jewish tourist attacked twice for wearing kippah

A 31-year-old Algerian man with a criminal record has been reported to prosecutors in Rome after a 22-year-old French Jewish tourist was assaulted twice in two days for wearing a kippah, police said.

The first incident occurred on 7 August in Piazza Cairoli, where the victim was sprayed in the face with an irritant substance. The following day in Largo di Torre Argentina, the tourist was kicked and punched by a group of four people. During both attacks, the assailants shouted "Free Palestine".

Carabinieri from Rome's Piazza Farnese station formally reported the suspect, who is homeless, on charges of battery and incitement to crime motivated by racial, ethnic, and religious discrimination. The complaint was filed by the victim.
