A 42-year-old German tourist was pulled from the Fontana delle Naiadi on Rome's Piazza della Repubblica by police after jumping into the historic fountain, authorities said.
Officers hauled the man from the water and issued a 450-euro fine along with a ban from the square. Rome has long enforced a regulation prohibiting anyone from climbing into, bathing in, or diving into its historic fountains, offering free public drinking fountains as an alternative.
The Fontana delle Naiadi, built in 1901 in the Belle Époque style, sits at the centre of the Piazza della Repubblica, one of Rome's most prominent public squares.
