Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky dismissed the country's ambassador to the United States, Olha Stefanishyna, according to a decree published on the presidential website. The move had been anticipated since a government reshuffle in July.
Stefanishyna, who was appointed to the post in July 2025, said the decision to step down was her own and stemmed from personal circumstances, publishing a letter requesting her release from duties. The decree did not state a reason for her removal. She has been under investigation by Ukraine's anti-corruption agency over suspected misconduct since last July.
The dismissal follows Zelensky's visit to Washington last week to request additional Patriot air defence missiles. Zelensky reportedly offered the Washington posting to former Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, who declined.
