President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has appointed security service chief Hmara as acting defence minister and nominated Naftogaz chief Serhii Koretskyi as prime minister, advancing a sweeping government reshuffle that has ignited mass protests in Kyiv and other cities.
The fallout from Mykhailo Fedorov's departure deepened on Thursday as hundreds gathered to protest his dismissal and Air Force deputy commander Yelizarov resigned in protest. Fedorov accused military chief Oleksandr Syrskyi of sowing national division and blocking all ministry initiatives. Zelenskiy, citing Fedorov's failure to implement new mobilisation policies, said a wartime president should not face such choices.
Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko is set to become defence minister, while Fedorov cited a surge in drone procurement and interception rates as his tenure's legacy.
