X launches banking and payments service for US subscribers

· Technology USA

X rolled out its X Money financial service across the United States on Wednesday, offering deposit accounts, peer-to-peer transfers, bill payments and a Visa debit card to Premium and Premium+ subscribers without leaving the social media app. Cross River Bank described the launch as the first government-insured banking platform built on a social network, holding deposits insured by the FDIC up to $250,000. The service, which offers an annual percentage yield of up to 6%, had previously been in limited beta since late June before today's broader debut. Senator Elizabeth Warren sent a letter in April questioning how the platform would fund the yield.
