A 52-year-old traveller was hospitalised after being stung by a venomous scorpion that had concealed itself inside her jacket at Düsseldorf Airport on Friday.
The woman complained of pain at the sting site and was treated by emergency services before being transferred to the university hospital. A reptile expert from the Düsseldorf fire department captured the scorpion and it was later identified as a yellow Mediterranean scorpion, regarded as one of the most venomous scorpion species in the world.
The animal was relocated to a reptile zoo near Düsseldorf. Authorities have not disclosed how the scorpion came to be at the airport or where the traveller had arrived from.
