A 54-year-old German man stabbed a 47-year-old woman and set her on fire at the Milaneo shopping centre in Stuttgart on Wednesday, leaving her fighting for her life in intensive care with severe stab and burn injuries. The victim underwent emergency surgery following the attack, which occurred shortly after 10:00 a.m. as the mall had just opened.
Police arrested the suspect at 12:10 p.m. in the Heumaden district, roughly two hours after the assault, aided by a helicopter search and analysis of surveillance footage. The attacker and victim were in a personal relationship, and the suspect was due to appear before a judge on Thursday.
The shopping centre was temporarily sealed off by police and fire crews but reopened to the public later in the day.
