· Politics FRA

French Member of the European Parliament Manon Aubry has been hospitalised and placed in intensive care following a viper bite that triggered serious complications.

Aubry, who represents the left-wing La France Insoumise party, revealed on Instagram on 17 August that she had been bitten. She was initially treated in emergency services before being transferred to intensive care due to envenomation complications.

The MEP will need to keep her leg immobilised and has cancelled her participation in the LFI youth summer university in the Drôme region. France records approximately 300 viper bites annually, with the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region averaging 80 cases per year.
