The French parliament approved an emergency agricultural law early on 21 July 2026 that permits the temporary reintroduction of two insecticides banned domestically but authorised elsewhere in the European Union. The National Assembly passed the 78-article bill by 296 votes to 224, overruling deletion amendments tabled by lawmakers from the governing coalition.
The legislation allows the exceptional return of acetamiprid and flupyradifurone, substances considered harmful to bees and human health. A joint parliamentary committee had endorsed the final text on 20 July following a meeting convened by Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu. Ecological Transition Minister Monique Barbut has signalled she may resign if the text is enacted.
Left-wing and Green deputies have pledged to refer the law to the Constitutional Council should it clear the Senate. An earlier attempt to revive acetamiprid collapsed after a petition drew more than two million signatures.
