Wildfire near Zaragoza expands to 7,600 hectares as fifth village evacuated

A wildfire burning near Orés in Spain's northeastern Aragon region has expanded to 7,600 hectares with a 60-kilometre perimeter, authorities said on Tuesday, after blazes across southern Europe killed at least 12 people in recent days. The fire has not caused any casualties.

Officials ordered the preventive evacuation of Uncastillo, the fifth locality emptied after Orés, Asín, Luesia and Malpica de Arba. Navarre authorities also evacuated Petilla de Aragón. In Asín, at least ten homes were damaged, one severely. A level-two emergency remains in effect across the zone.

More than 400 personnel, 22 aircraft and roughly 90 farm tractors are battling the flames, with the military emergency unit contributing over 200 troops. Multiple roads remain closed, though power has been restored. Roberto Bermúdez de Castro, a regional official, indicated the fire would take days to bring under control.
