Two British hikers have been found alive with burns covering 40% of their bodies following the devastating wildfire near Bedar in southern Spain's Almería province. Civil Guard officers rescued the couple from a ravine after a two-hour operation.
The blaze, which has claimed at least 12 lives and scorched over 6,000 hectares since Thursday, forced 1,448 people to evacuate from 11 areas. Among the dead, four bodies were discovered in a burnt-out vehicle with a right-hand steering wheel, suggesting British or Irish nationals. Authorities arrested two individuals who returned to evacuated homes in defiance of official orders.
Some 500 firefighters and emergency workers continue to battle the flames across the ravaged landscape.
