A major wildfire in Krokstadelva, Drammen municipality, has destroyed more than 100 homes and remains out of control as of Thursday evening. Hundreds of residents have been evacuated, though no one has been reported missing, according to incident commander Frode Presthus.
The blaze began in a row house around mid-afternoon and spread to surrounding forest by early evening, advancing toward homes to the north and south. Power has been cut to the affected area. Around 80 firefighters and Civil Defence personnel are working on evacuations, while six helicopters have been deployed under a temporary no-fly zone.
One firefighter sustained minor injuries and a civilian was treated for smoke inhalation. Police issued warnings about potential explosions and toxic smoke. Authorities expect the fire may not be brought under control until possibly Saturday, with flames still flaring and at risk of jumping to new areas.
