Warner Bros. released the first full trailer on Sunday for "Digger," the tenth feature film by Alejandro González Iñárritu, starring Tom Cruise as an eccentric oil baron whose company may have triggered an ecological catastrophe with nuclear-war potential.
Cruise, 64, plays Digger Rockwell, a pot-bellied, cat-loving billionaire with disheveled grey hair who must confront the fallout from his firm's environmental disaster. The actor has described the project as wholly original and unlike any of his previous work. The supporting cast includes John Goodman, Riz Ahmed, Sandra Hüller, Michael Stuhlbarg and Jesse Plemons.
Iñárritu, who also co-wrote the screenplay, conceived the idea while finishing "The Revenant" in 2015. The film was shot in VistaVision and is scheduled for worldwide release on Oct. 2.
