Virgin Atlantic engineer dies after being crushed during Heathrow aircraft maintenance

A 23-year-old Virgin Atlantic aircraft engineer has died after being crushed while carrying out maintenance on a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner at London's Heathrow Airport.

Georgie Buxton sustained the injuries on 11 June when officers were called to the scene at 8:49 a.m., according to the Metropolitan Police Aviation Policing Unit. He spent four weeks in intensive care before life support was switched off on 7 July.

The Metropolitan Police and Health and Safety Executive are jointly investigating the incident. Buxton had left Ryanair in 2024 to join Virgin Atlantic, where he worked for two years prior to the accident.
