The Valencian regional parliament approved the Generalitat's 2026 budget on Tuesday, passing a 33.3-billion-euro spending plan that for the first time in Spain incorporates a "national priority" principle for public aid allocation.
The People's Party and Vox backed the measure with a combined 53 votes, while the Socialist Party and Compromís opposed it. The budget, 3.1% larger than the previous year, ties social benefits and housing access to demonstrable long-term residency in the region and Spain. PP rejected a Vox amendment that would have cut 973,000 euros from the Valencian Language Academy.
Socialist leader Diana Morant announced the central government would challenge the budget law before the Constitutional Court. A plenary session on accompanying legislation is scheduled for July 31.
