A Ukrainian drone unit eliminated an entire U.S. armored brigade during a military exercise in Germany earlier this year, exposing vulnerabilities in American forces against unmanned systems.
Operators from Ukraine's 412th Nemesis Regiment dismantled the 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team of the 1st Cavalry Division during the Combined Resolve exercise held between April and May. The roughly 3,500 American troops, deploying heavy armored vehicles that raised large dust clouds easily spotted by reconnaissance drones, were "killed" so rapidly that destroyed units had to be resurrected to allow the drill to continue. U.S. forces gradually adapted by learning to disperse, camouflage, and improve electronic warfare tactics.
The Pentagon is now intensifying training and exchanges with Kyiv to absorb drone warfare lessons, having already invested billions in new drone and counter-drone technologies.
