A Ukrainian court has remanded in custody the commander of the 155th Separate Mechanized Brigade, Stanislav Luchanov, sending him to a pre-trial detention centre for two months without bail over the alleged abduction and killing of two civilian brothers.
Luchanov is accused of ordering eight subordinates to seize Maksym and Roman Moseichuk from their village of Kalynivka, Kyiv region, on the night of June 27, transporting them to a military site near Poltava where they were shot and buried in a dug pit. The motive reportedly stemmed from a private dispute involving noise complaints linked to Luchanov's family. President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the arrests on social media, noting ten servicemen were detained in total.
Luchanov, who took command of the brigade in February 2025, had abandoned his post and was suspended on July 11 before being apprehended in Kyiv on July 13. He faces a potential life sentence if convicted.
