Two people were killed and at least five others wounded, including a 2-year-old child, when gunfire erupted at the Bite of Seattle food festival on Sunday evening. Witnesses reported hearing several shots around 6 p.m. local time at Seattle Center, near the Space Needle, where thousands had gathered for the weekend event.
Seattle police confirmed multiple victims and urged the public to avoid the area. Mayor Katie Wilson announced that at least one suspect was detained, while Swedish media reported investigators believe two individuals may have exchanged gunfire and that police were searching for a second suspect. The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Seattle said no Taiwanese casualties had been reported.
The shooting is among at least 271 mass shootings in the United States in 2026 involving four or more victims, according to the Gun Violence Archive.
