A confrontation between two acquaintances escalated into a mass shooting in downtown Tucson early Sunday, leaving ten people seriously injured, including the suspected gunman.
The violence erupted at roughly 2 a.m. local time on 19 July. Officers arriving on scene shot the suspect, who was hospitalised with life-threatening injuries. The nine other victims, all adults, sustained serious wounds; many were shot in their extremities, and several were taken to hospital in critical condition.
The Pima County Sheriff's Office will lead the investigation into the circumstances of the shooting. The incident brings the tally of mass shootings in the United States so far this year to 257.
