Two fishermen rescued after five days adrift on a cooler off Mexico's Pacific coast

Two fishermen were rescued by Mexico's Navy after spending five days clinging to a fish cooler in the Pacific Ocean, authorities said on Wednesday.

The men, aged 53 and 35, were aboard the vessel Camaronera when they last communicated with their fishing cooperative on Aug. 14. The cooperative alerted authorities after losing contact with the pair, prompting a search operation.

Rescuers located the fishermen about 240 kilometres off the coast of Chiapas in southern Mexico. The survivors were airlifted by helicopter to port, where they received medical attention before reuniting with their families.
