Rescuers in Indonesia have pulled multiple survivors from the sea days after the passenger vessel KM Nurul Salsa sank off the coast of Selayar Island, South Sulawesi, following an engine failure roughly 80 kilometres offshore.
The navy corvette KRI Marlin-877 evacuated two survivors on Saturday near Matalaang Island after a fisherman's tip, while five others — including a seven-year-old girl — were discovered clinging to a makeshift raft built from jerrycans and cork. A 46-year-old woman and her 24-year-old son were also found alive on the uninhabited islet of Balaloho.
At least one person has been confirmed dead and 18 remain missing, though an updated passenger manifest raised the tally on board to 78, well above the original 50 listed. More than 200救援人员 — backed by aircraft, helicopters, boats, military, police and volunteers — are scouring the waters south of Sanipa Island, where the search continued into Saturday evening.
