U.S. President Donald Trump announced that his Board of Peace has reached a historic agreement for the complete disarmament of Hamas and all other armed groups in Gaza. Under the plan, Israeli forces would withdraw from the territory once disarmament is completed, with an international stabilization force and a new Palestinian police unit assuming security responsibilities. Trump thanked Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey for their mediation and called the deal a monumental step toward lasting peace.
Two Hamas officials confirmed the agreement, though a senior Hamas figure said disarmament will not begin before Israeli troops leave Gaza and insisted a Palestinian body, not Israel, would oversee the process. Hamas weapons would be handed to a national committee for Gaza's administration, which is currently based in Egypt and barred by Israel from entering the strip.
Israel has not commented on the agreement and demands full demilitarization of the coastal territory. A ceasefire has held since October 2025. Negotiators from the U.S., Qatar, and Turkey are expected to meet in Cairo soon to advance implementation.
