Team Esbjerg defeated Odense Håndbold 33-25 to win the Danish women's Super Cup on Friday, handing their rivals a punishing start to the new season.
Esbjerg seized control with a 10-goal lead and never relinquished it. Henny Reistad scored eight goals to lead the attack, while Henriette Eggen and Marit Røsberg-Torgesen also found the net. Odense collapsed in the second half, conceding six unanswered goals in succession.
The match was marred by disciplinary incidents. Line Haugsted received a red card for striking Odense's Maarschalkerweerd in the face, and Olivia Lövkvist was given a two-minute suspension for a similar offence against Vyakhireva. Elma Halilcevic converted a penalty for Odense, but the visitors could not stem the tide.
