A 14-year-old student was arrested after a shooting at Warner Robins High School in Georgia on Wednesday that left one classmate injured. The incident occurred around 2:15 p.m. local time in a school bathroom, following an argument between two ninth-grade students, one week into the new school year.
The injured student was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Houston County Sheriff Matt Moulton said. The school was placed under a code red lockdown as the suspect fled on foot. Police apprehended the teenager about an hour later in the Huntington Hills neighborhood, roughly 800 metres from campus.
Warner Robins High School will remain closed to students on Thursday and Friday, with crisis counseling scheduled for staff on Thursday and for students when classes resume Monday.
