Spotify will begin tagging AI-generated artist profiles with an "AI Persona" label from mid-September, the company announced Tuesday, as streaming platforms grapple with a surge in synthetic music uploads.
The badge will appear on artist profiles, search results, and playlist track rows on mobile devices. Music from accounts flagged as AI Personas will be excluded by default from personalised and editorial recommendations. Artists can self-declare their status via Spotify for Artists starting today, though the company said it will also rely on human review and AI-based investigative tools to identify undeclared cases, prioritising profiles that have reached certain reach thresholds.
The move follows a July announcement by industry bodies including IFPI, RIAA, and the Recording Academy backing a unified approach to voluntary AI track labelling.
