The global music industry on Friday unveiled a two-tier visual labelling system to help consumers distinguish between human-made and artificial intelligence-produced tracks. The "AI-Generated" label applies to content where AI produced all or most creative elements, while an "AI-Assisted" tag covers songs with substantial human input that used AI for certain components.
The initiative is backed by IFPI, RIAA, IMPALA, A2IM, WIN, the Grammy Awards, SAG-AFTRA, and the Human Artistry Campaign. It comes as streaming platforms face a surge in synthetic uploads: Deezer reported that AI-generated tracks accounted for 44% of all new music uploaded in April, and Apple Music found more than one-third of uploads were fully AI-produced.
Deezer is the only major platform systematically flagging AI-generated tracks, while Spotify launched its own separate "Verified by Spotify" label in late April.
