Axel Rudakubana, the teenager serving a minimum 52-year sentence for the 2024 Southport stabbings, has been charged with multiple assaults on prison staff and emergency workers at Belmarsh prison, prosecutors said on Wednesday.
The charges span four separate incidents between May and October 2025, including alleged attacks on two paramedics, attempted grievous bodily harm, and possession of an offensive weapon in custody. Rudakubana is due to appear via video link at Westminster Magistrates' Court on September 11.
The charges were filed one day before the second anniversary of the July 29, 2024 attack in Southport, where Rudakubana killed Bebe King, 6, Elsie Dot Stancombe, 7, and Alice da Silva Aguiar, 9. He has since been transferred to Broadmoor Hospital after authorities determined he could not be safely managed in a prison setting. The families of the victims have accused him of manipulating the system.
