South Carolina Republicans are voting today in a Senate primary runoff between Darline Graham and Representative Ralph Norman, deciding who will face Democratic nominee Annie Andrews in November. The contest follows the July 11 death of Senator Lindsey Graham, whose seat Darline Graham was appointed to fill for the remainder of the term.
Darline Graham, who has no prior elected office experience, received nearly 33% of the vote to Norman's 25% in the August 11 primary. President Donald Trump endorsed Darline Graham and held a tele-rally for her on Monday, while MAGA Inc. spent nearly $830,000 on voter outreach on her behalf. Norman, a House Freedom Caucus member since 2017, contributed more than $1 million of his own money in the final week and secured an endorsement from Nikki Haley.
National security has emerged as a dividing line. Darline Graham said in a debate that the issue is "not my thing," while Norman described Taiwan as a definite ally. The late Senator Graham was known as a foreign policy hawk.
