South Carolina Republicans will head to a runoff on Aug. 25 to decide their nominee for the U.S. Senate seat left vacant by the death of Lindsey Graham, after no candidate secured a majority in Tuesday's special primary. Darline Graham advanced to the second round, having led a 10-candidate field that included Russell Fry, Ralph Norman, and former governor Mark Sanford.

Graham, the late senator's sister, was appointed to the seat by Governor Henry McMaster on July 13 and received an endorsement from President Donald Trump. She campaigned on her tie-breaking vote to confirm Attorney General Todd Blanche. The primary was triggered after Lindsey Graham won the June 9 Republican primary but died of cardiovascular disease on July 11 before the general election.

The Republican runoff winner will face Democratic nominee Annie Andrews, a pediatrician, in November.
