A cold front pushing in from France is triggering severe thunderstorms across southern and western Germany on Thursday, with supercells capable of producing hail up to four centimetres wide, wind gusts of 120 km/h and a heightened tornado risk particularly in Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria. The most critical phase stretches from Thursday evening deep into the night, before the threat shifts northeast on Friday.
Temperatures across the Czech Republic are reaching nearly 35 °C in southern Moravia on Friday, where a fire-danger warning remains in effect. Storms on Friday may dump around 40 millimetres of rain accompanied by hail and strong wind gusts as the front moves through.
The pattern marks a 5 to 10 °C drop in daily highs by Sunday across the region, with below-average temperatures and showers expected into early next week as cool, moist air flows in from the North Atlantic.
