A Russian missile strike hit the Turkish-owned cargo ship Golden Leo in the Black Sea on Sunday, killing five crew members and leaving five others missing, after earlier aerial barrages across Ukraine left 20 dead.
Three cruise missiles struck the Guinea-Bissau-flagged bulk carrier as it departed the combat zone laden with grain. The crew included Indian and Syrian nationals, and a Ukrainian captain was among the dead. Eight survivors were evacuated to a hospital in Odesa.
The Ukrainian navy condemned the attack as a deliberate strike on an unarmed civilian vessel and termed it a violation of international humanitarian law. The incident came hours after more than 20 Russian ballistic missiles hit Kyiv overnight, killing at least one person and wounding 16 in the capital.
