Russia accused Ukraine of killing the chief engineer of the occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, Alexander Yakovlev, in a drone strike on Wednesday at the boundary between the facility and the nearby town of Enerhodar. The driver of Yakovlev's official vehicle was also killed in the July 15 attack, according to Russian officials.

Rosatom chief Alexei Likhachev confirmed the death and demanded a clear response from the International Atomic Energy Agency. Foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called the strike a murder and urged the IAEA to condemn it.

Russian authorities have not provided footage of the alleged attack, and Yakovlev had never previously been mentioned on the official Telegram channels of the plant or Rosatom.
