Portugal's Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation has established new compensation rates for teachers grading national secondary school exams, paying 1 euro per classified response and 12 euros per reviewed exam. The order, signed by Education Minister Fernando Alexandre on July 28, also sets 10 euros for each paper graded in physical format, such as Descriptive Geometry and Drawing A, and 18 euros for papers graded following formal complaints.
The measure covers the first phase, second phase, and special examination period. First-phase results were released on July 17, three days later than scheduled, prompting the minister to apologise to students, families, teachers, and schools for the disruption.
The second phase of exams ran from July 21 to 24, while applications for the first phase of university admissions remain open until August 6. Registration for the special exam period opened on July 28 and closes on July 31.
