Pope Leo XIV renews Vatican economy council with four cardinals and lay members

Pope Leo XIV has overhauled the Vatican's Council for the Economy, appointing four new cardinals and four lay members while retaining Cardinal Reinhard Marx as coordinator. Charlotte Kreuter-Kirchhof was confirmed as vice-coordinator and Bishop Brian Edwin Ferme as secretary.

The new cardinals are Grzegorz Ryś, Ladislav Nemet, Jean-Paul Vesco and Roberto Repole, the archbishop of Turin who also serves on the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith. The lay appointees include Denis Duverne, formerly of Axa; Elena Wettstein, a UBS Group AG executive; Gisela Liechtenstein of Industrie- und Finanzkontor Etablissement; and Paolo Nusiner of the Dicastery for Communication.

The council oversees the financial and administrative affairs of the Holy See.
