Danish police shot and wounded a 22-year-old man during a vehicle pursuit in Tingbjerg, northwest of Copenhagen, on Saturday, prompting a night of arson and stone-throwing across the neighbourhood.

Officers fired at a white car during the chase, leaving a bullet hole near the base of the rear window and shattering the glass. The driver was hospitalised in stable condition. The Independent Police Complaints Authority will investigate the discharge.

From around midnight, groups set fire to waste containers, vehicles and a community building, and stones were thrown at firefighters responding to the blazes. No arrests were made and no one was injured during the overnight unrest. Police described the situation as relatively calm by 3 a.m. Sunday, though a heavy presence remained in the area.
