The Pentagon has created a new "Overseas Operations" casualty category listing the four service members killed in Jordan and Iraq since hostilities with Iran resumed on July 7, separating them from the original war tally after the Defense Department lowered its official death toll to 14 from 18.
The new category — established for casualties incurred from July 7 onward — lists the four dead by name: 1st Lt. Tyler James Feehan, Sgt. Angel S. Rampersad, Pvt. Isabella Gonzales and Sgt. Michael Emmanuel Swinton, along with 207 wounded service members. The Pentagon attributed the website changes to temporary data disruptions and site errors on the Defense Casualty Analysis System.
The Trump administration maintains an April ceasefire suspended the initial conflict's casualty count as of May 1. The four troops died roughly a week after President Trump notified Congress that military action had resumed following Iranian strikes on three merchant vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. Combined wounded across both categories now total 624, up from 417 in the original Operation Epic Fury phase.
