A significant section of the Bolzano courthouse collapsed early Thursday, rendering the core of the Fascist-era building unusable and disrupting judicial operations in the northern Italian city.
Around a quarter of the structure gave way at approximately 6:00 a.m. while renovation and expansion works were under way. Prosecutor Axel Bisignano said the central portion of the courthouse is completely inaccessible and that authorities will seek to restore services and redistribute staff. The collapse is likely linked to the ongoing construction work, according to officials.
Firefighters, police, and medical crews responded to the scene, with fire crews inspecting the site for further structural risks. One cleaning worker sustained minor injuries, while initial assessments indicated no other casualties.
