The Paris prosecutor's office opened an investigation on 6 August into suspected Russian interference against Raphaël Glucksmann, following his claims of a destabilisation operation linked to the upcoming 2027 presidential election.
Entrusted to the cybercrime unit, the probe will examine potential offences related to the fabrication of manipulated imagery to serve a foreign power's interests. French intelligence services traced the disinformation to pro-Russian networks Storm-1516 and Matryoshka.
Glucksmann is the third declared or prospective candidate targeted in two weeks, after former prime ministers Édouard Philippe and Gabriel Attal. Attal warned that the Kremlin would sustain interference campaigns against candidates while backing far-right leader Marine Le Pen, who polls suggest may lead the first round. France's two-round presidential vote is scheduled for 18 April and 2 May 2027.
