Marine Le Pen's X account and National Rally website hit by cyberattack

· Politics FRA

Marine Le Pen's X account was compromised on July 21, 2026, in a cyberattack that also targeted the National Rally's official website. An English-language post promoting a $LEPEN cryptocurrency appeared briefly before being removed within minutes, while the party's website was defaced with an image of a cat in Algerian and Moroccan flag colours replacing Le Pen's portrait.

The National Rally confirmed the intrusion, attributing the breach to weak password security and saying no personal data was stolen. However, the French Breaches website suggested more than a thousand individuals could be affected by a potential data leak. The party denied any connection to a separate hack targeting a municipal candidate's account.

The cyberattack was claimed on a forum frequented by cybercriminals. The Paris prosecutor's office has opened an investigation, assigning it to the cybercrime unit.
