Elon Musk wrote on X that Marine Le Pen is France's last hope, intervening in the French presidential race just days after the far-right leader announced her fourth campaign bid following a court ruling that cleared her to run.
Le Pen re-entered the race last week after an appeals court permitted her candidacy, and current polling puts her runoff qualification on 2 May 2027 as near-certain. Musk, who has previously backed right-wing and far-right groups including Rupert Lowe's Restore Britain party, has a pattern of endorsing nationalist movements across Europe.
The post drew swift condemnation from Thierry Breton, who accused Musk of political interference and called on European authorities to ensure X's algorithm does not favour any candidate.
