French DJ Barbara Butch and her company Butch Events filed multiple legal complaints on July 23 in Grenoble and Paris, accusing the left-wing party La France Insoumise, local elected officials, the far-right outlet Omerta, and essayist Alain Soral of incitement to hatred and violence, aggravated assault, obstruction of artistic freedom, cyberharrassment, defamation, and aggravated public insult.
The legal action follows a July 18 concert in Grenoble interrupted by pro-Palestinian and La France Insoumise activists who threw glass bottles and distributed flyers. Protesters objected to Butch's 2025 appearance at the French ambassador's residence in Israel and her support for a legislative proposal known as the Yadan bill. La France Insoumise lawmaker Mathilde Panot acknowledged on July 22 that the flyer was "bad" and condemned insults and projectile-throwing.
The Grenoble prosecutor's office opened an investigation on July 21 for coordinated obstruction of liberties. That same day, nearly 300 cultural and academic figures published a statement of support for Butch in Libération, including filmmakers Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne and comedian Alain Chabat.
