The trial of French MEP Rima Hassan on charges of glorifying terrorism opened in Paris on July 8, 2026 before being postponed to October 19 and 20 at the request of her lawyer.
The case stems from a late-March social media post referencing Kozo Okamoto, convicted for the 1972 attack on Israel's Lod airport that killed 26 people. The post was flagged by the interior minister, the European Jewish Organisation, and Licra. Hassan faces up to seven years in prison, a 100,000-euro fine, and a decade-long ban from public office if convicted.
Hundreds of supporters gathered outside the courthouse, including Jean-Luc Mélenchon and Bally Bagayoko. Supporters say the case is an attempt to silence pro-Palestinian voices. Hassan is also due to face two other proceedings for incitement on September 16.
